FADE IN:
EXT. THE GREAT DIVIDE - NIGHT
A woman in her early twenties walks slowly along an
irregularly built wall. She is walking with her right hand
brushing the wall. The wall seems to go on forever in front
of her, and as high up as the eye can see. She is wearing a
pale grey dress with a silver necklace. Her hair is blowing
softly in the wind. It is night, but there is no moon, stars
or clouds. She comes across a large wrought iron gate at
least three times as tall as she is, but only narrow enough
for one person. She stops in front of the gate and looks
slowly all around her. The gate slowly opens, and out walks
a young boy. He is dressed in pale clothing as well. He
motions to her "come inside" with a smile on his face. She
softly shakes her head no.
GIRL
No, I am not ready, it isn't my time.
The boy's smile fades.
BOY
We don't get to choose, He chooses
for us.
The girl shakes her head no once again as tears slowly well
up in her eyes.
GIRL
But why?
BOY
It is not for us to question, you
need to come inside before it is too
late, before He gets angry and comes
here.
GIRL
I don't care if He does come here it
isn't my time...
BOY
I wouldn't be here if it wasn't your
time to Cross. He has entrusted me
to be the Gatekeeper. He has given
me the power to know. I can't even
find the Gate unless someone is here
waiting. I'm sorry, but you need to
Cross, I can feel Him getting angry.
I can feel Him getting closer, were
running out of time. Please come
inside.
The girl turns away from the boy and the gate and starts to
walk away from them.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.
Suddenly a cloud of mist engulfs the boy and he disappears.
The Gate slams violently shut. The girl is startled and
turns around to find that the gate has vanished. She runs
away into the darkness away from the wall.
EXT. A SMALL VILLAGE - DAY
The same girl is laying lifeless on the ground. Blood is
spattered all over her dress, which is now a pale yellow.
Next to her lies a basket and various items strewn all around
it. The houses and huts of the village are all either smoking
or still on fire. All around the village lie its inhabitants,
dead, each one in a gruesome pose where they were struck
down by their assailants. The camera slowly closes in on
the girl's face and we see her eyes move beneath her closed
lids.
EXT. A SMALL VILLAGE - DAY
The same girl is now walking with a handsome young man of
her age. The village is just off in the distance in front
of them. Her dress is now clean. He is dressed in farmer's
garb, with a small dagger hanging from his belt. The woman
is now carrying the basket. She stops next to a fruit tree.
GIRL
Gareb, should I make us some pie
tonight.
GAREB
I would like that very much love.
Here let me help you pick them.
She sets down the basket as he approaches the tree.
GAREB (CONT'D)
How many will we need?
She is now facing away from the village looking back along
the path they just came up from.
GAREB (CONT'D)
Euclid, how many will we need?
Gareb reaches for another fruit, once he picks it off of the
branch he turns around.
GAREB (CONT'D)
Euclid, how many....
Gareb drops the fruit. Along the horizon we see a huge dust
cloud.
EUCLID
What is it?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.
GAREB
Riders, and by the looks of that
cloud, an army of them. Euclid go.
Go and warn the others.
EUCLID
No. What are you going to do? I
don't want to leave you. What are
you going to do?
GAREB
Just go. If you don't hurry they
won't be able to close the gate.
I'll be along right after you. Go!
Euclid picks up her basket and runs toward the village. As
she gets to the gate of the village she stops and turns
around. She sees Gareb on top of a hill running toward her.
Shortly after he crests the hill men on horse back with swords
drawn follow him. They reach him quickly and strike him
down. Euclid screams as a large man comes out to her and
pulls her inside the village's defensible walls, but it is
too late. The men reach the village before they can close
the gate. Euclid is struck down as her basket goes flying
in slow motion, its' contents falling and rolling across the
ground.
CUT TO:
Euclid is laying on the ground as before. She suddenly and
violently jerks around and then springs up. She looks wildly
around. She quickly stands up. She keels over in pain, her
dress still bloody, but she is free from visible injury.
All around her is the carnage that was wrought. She turns
and runs to the village gate, pausing only to see a young
child lifeless on the ground. She continues to run through
the gate and up the hill toward the top of the hill where
she witnessed Gareb being killed. She reaches the summit,
but does not see a body. She again wildly looks around.
She bursts into tears and slowly falls to the ground. She
screams. She sits there sobbing for a moment then springs
to her feet. Nearby is the fruit tree where earlier she
picked some fruit. She walks over to it and leans slightly
on it. She again bursts into tears and starts to pound the
tree. After a few hits, she notices the tree is splintering
and breaking at the weight of her blows. It slowly starts
to fall away from her. As it hits the ground she looks at
her hands with a look of horror. The are not bruised or
injured in any way.
INT. NORTH RIDGE CASTLE BEDROOM - NIGHT
A woman lies on a bed in a lavishly decorated room. She is
in labor. She is obviously having difficulty giving birth.
There are three other people in the room: KING ROLAND, her
husband, an apothecary, and a midwife.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4.
ROLAND
What is wrong with her, why hasn't
she delivered this baby? Why is
this taking so long, it didn't take
this long both times before.
APOTHECARY
I don't know sire, there appear to
be complications. The baby isn't
coming out right.
ROLAND
What the hell do you mean
complications, birth my child and
save my wife.
APOTHECARY
Yes sire, yes sire, I am trying.
The woman screams in agony and then appears to lose
consciousness. There is blood everywhere.
APOTHECARY (CONT'D)
My dear, I think she is crossing. I
think she has lost too much blood.
He leans over her chest to listen for a heart beat. He looks
at King Roland with his head still on the woman's chest and
slowly shakes his head.
APOTHECARY (CONT'D)
I am sorry sire, I think she is dead.
The King's eyes begin to well up with tears as he shakes his
head as well. The Apothecary gets up from listening for a
heart beat and begins to wipe his hands free of blood, a
look of defeat on his face. The King grabs him by his
shirt...
ROLAND
My child, what about my unborn child?
APOTHECARY
I would have to slice open her belly
sire...
ROLAND
Do it, save my child.
INT. NORTH RIDGE CASTLE BEDROOM - NIGHT
Two boys are sitting in a room similar to the one the woman
was in, only there are two beds of a much smaller size. One
boy is a few years older than the other. The younger, JOSS
KANN, is sitting on the end of the bed. The older, KYREN
SACHE is staring out a window.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5.
JOSS
What is happening to mommy?
KYREN
She is having another baby. Were
going to have another brother or
sister. Maybel says it is going to
be a brother, but I don't really
believe her.
JOSS
I wonder what daddy is going to name
him. Is it true what Maybel says
about our names? Do they mean
something else in the Old Speak?
She says my name means "bring
together". What does yours mean?
KYREN
Mine means "love eternal". I hate
it. I wish I could have a normal
name like all of the other kids. I
wish we weren't even going to have
another brother, it is bad enough
with you tagging along all of the
time.
JOSS
Why are you always so mean to me.
Why can't you ever just play with me
and be nice to me and not hit me and
take my things.
Kyren turns to face his brother.
KYREN
Cause, before you got here, everything
was mine. This room, all of the
toys, the horses...Mom. I didn't
have to share anything with anyone.
It was just me and Mom. We would go
on picnics together, ride together,
just me and her. And then you came
along. I wish you were never born
either.
Joss begins to weep and runs out of the room. He hears a
scream from the room where his mother is giving birth to his
new sibling. He runs in that direction with Kyren shortly
in his midst. They arrive in the room just in time to hear
a baby crying. As they burst into the room they see their
father holding a baby, and a blood soaked sheet covering
their deceased mother. Joss looks back and forth between
the baby and his mother, a look of confusion on his face.
Kyren looks once at the baby and once at his mother and then
slowly turns away and exits the room.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6.
ROLAND
Joss. Look. You have a new brother.
The King has obviously been crying. He holds the baby so
that Joss can see.
ROLAND (CONT'D)
Come say hello. His name is Latre
Benne.
Joss ignores his father and slowly walks over to his mother.
He slowly falls to the floor, draped over himself in despair.
MIDWIFE
"Life for death".
EXT. THE GREAT DIVIDE - NIGHT
The woman who has just given birth is walking along the same
wall as the woman earlier. She too comes to the gate and
encounters the boy. He is smiling just as before, this time
the woman is smiling as well.
WOMAN
The Great Divide...Am I to cross
into the Sea of Waking Dreams.
The boy nods, as he starts to walk through the gate. He
stops suddenly right at the gate and looks behind him. He
turns back to the woman and motions to her to "come". She
does and they take each others' hands. They briefly exchange
a smile and then disappear into the shadows. The gate shuts
and slowly fades away leaving only The Great Divide.
INT. SANDMAN'S REALM - NIGHT
Euclid is standing in a large chamber with hundreds of black
pillars. There is a mist on the floor hiding it. She is
standing still looking around. She turns once and behind
her is SANDMAN, a man dressed in all black. He is clearly a
foot taller than she and is of medium build. His face appears
to be obscured by shadows, but there is no visible light
source.
EUCLID
Why must you torture me with your
visits Sandman? Why do you keep me
in this eternal damnation? Why won't
you let me cross?
The Sandman's posture clearly displays his displeasure.
SANDMAN
My dear, I believe it was you who
defied me at the Great Divide.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7.
SANDMAN (CONT'D)
It was you who would not pass through
the gate. It was you who ignored
the Gatekeeper's pleas. It was you
who decided you weren't ready.
EUCLID
If I would have known that this was
my punishment I would have gladly
crossed. If I would have known that
I would forever be separated from my
love I would have done as you wished.
I would gladly give up the last four
hundred years for just one more day
with him. I could have spent eternity
with him, instead I attempted to
reunite with him, if only I would
have known. If only I would have
known the pain and agony you would
put me through, the constant craving,
all the killing you would have me do
with nothing but empty promises...
SANDMAN
You speak as if it was I who bestowed
this gift upon you. It was not, my
child. If I had that kind of power
why would I only be able to visit
you in your dreams? In fact it is
rather peculiar, don't you think,
that you still partake in such a
mortal activity as sleep. No, I
think you sleep because you want to
dream, you want me to visit you.
You want my help, need it, to release
you. This is your reward for your
defiance. The price you pay for
your love, so that someday you can
be with your precious. It will come,
I promise. Your work is not complete.
You still have much to do.
EUCLID
No doubt more empty promises. Gift
you say, I look at it as more of a
curse. You have stripped me of my
humanity. My very survival dependent
upon the senseless slaughter of
innocents. The only reminder I have
of my old self is sleep. I don't do
it to listen to your vile tongue. I
do it to remember what I once was,
what I once had.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
8.
SANDMAN
You will have an eternity of
reminders. An eternity of love. It
is coming soon. The last has been
born. The third. Your role in this
play is coming to a close. I will
send the Gatekeeper for you when
your work is complete. Your obedience
will not be forgotten. This is your
next task...
INT. NORTH RIDGE CASTLE COUNCIL CHAMBER - DAY
The room is adorned with tapestries depicting various battle
scenes. In the center is a large rectangular table with
chairs for three on either side and one on each end. At the
head of the table is King Roland. He is dressed in a royal
blue tunic with a chainmail shirt over it. Directly across
from the King is an empty seat. Directly to the right of
the King sits VLAKE. He is dressed in a suit of full plate
armor with gold accents, a large sword leans on his right
side. To Vlake's right sits KIRN. Kirn is dressed in a
green tunic over finely oiled leather armor with an ornate
bow leaning on his side. Two identical daggers hang from
his belt. To Kirn's right sits JOHAN. He is dressed in a
long grey cloak. Across from Johan sits Kyren. Kyren is
now in his late teens. He is dressed similar to the king.
To Kyren's right is an empty seat, and next to the empty
seat sits an old man with parchments and scrolls on the table
in front of him. The SCRIBE is furiously writing something
on one of the parchments.
KIRN
My scouts say that the forests at
the outskirts of the kingdom are
nearly barren of wildlife.
ROLAND
What does that mean?
KIRN
According to the reports, no one has
seen a unicorn for three months, a
pixie for two, and no one has seen a
griffin for nearly a year. The
wildlife appears to be vanishing
sire.
Kirn takes a parchment off of the table and begins reading
aloud.
KIRN (CONT'D)
Harpies, pegasi, basilisks,
elementals, dragons...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
9.
JOHAN
The elementals were driven out by
Vlake's Order, and no one has seen a
drake around here in a decade, let
alone a dragon.
KIRN
Still, something is going on. I
suggest we investigate further into
the cause of this disappearance.
Sire something has to be done.
ROLAND
Aye. I agree. Perhaps you should
send your scouts out further to see
if they can spot any of these
creatures, or gather any information
on their untimely migration.
VLAKE
I don't think this is a simple early
migration sire. Kirn is right.
Something is horribly wrong. It is
true, my Order is nearly extinct due
to the eradication of the elemental
evils, but the rest of these
creatures, there is no explanation
for their absence.
KYREN
Maybe the peasants are hunting them.
KIRN
That is absurd, the peasants aren't
going to hunt harpies.
KYREN
Then perhaps it's your Rangers who
are killing all the diseased, winged
rats...
At this comment, Kirn leaps from his seat.
KIRN
Watch your tongue young prince...
ROLAND
Kirn. Please. It does us no good
to be bickering amongst each other.
Suddenly the chamber door flings open and in rushes a SERVANT.
He is panting and gasping for air.
SERVANT
Sire! Sire!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
10.
Suddenly from the shadows in the corner appears a man dressed
in all black. His face is covered by a cloth black mask.
He whips out a thin straight bladed dagger, and before the
Servant can react the blade is pressed up to his throat.
The man in black's other hand is tightly covering the
Servant's mouth. All of the men, except Kyren, are now
standing. The servant has a look of horror and surprise on
his face. The King quickly waves his hand and the man in
black releases the Servant and shrinks back into the corner.
The Servant looks around blindly searching for his assailant,
but he is gone.
ROLAND
You are never to interrupt a meeting
of The High Council, short of an
enemy invasion!
SERVANT
This could be worse sire...one of
the tower lookouts claims to see a
dragon approaching.
The council members all have a look of surprise on their
faces.
SERVANT (CONT'D)
He also claims...
KIRN
What?!
SERVANT
Well...my liege...he claims there is
a man riding the dragon...
EXT. NORTH RIDGE CASTLE - DAY
We see a panoramic view of the castle. It is nestled on top
of a gigantic cliff. The only approach is a long path down
one end, the rest of the castle's wall are almost even with
the cliff's edge. In the distance the approaching dragon
can be seen only as a speck. We zoom in to the highest
courtyard, surrounded by the four towers that reach up to
the sky. A door from the interior of the castle opens and
the Council floods out. The camera cuts to the approaching
dragon, which is clearly defined now, and it is obvious that
someone is riding on top of it.
KIRN
My eyes must deceive me, it is a
dragon, and there is a rider.
Kirn knocks an arrow into his bow and takes aim at the dragon.
ROLAND
Hold.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
11.
Kirn keeps the arrow leveled at the dragon. Vlake drops to
one knee at the sight of the dragon and begins to pray. The
Scribe flees back into the castle, closely followed by the
Servant. Kyren begins shouting orders to the guards to ready
their weapons. Johan places himself in front of the King
and readies his staff. The guards have hastily assembled
into a line in front of the council members roughly in the
middle of the courtyard. The dragon and his rider reach the
courtyard, and begin to descend to land, knocking over many
of the guards with its ferociously beating wings. The dragon,
a bronze color, lands and the rider leaps off. He gracefully
lands and begins to approach the council members. The
remaining guards assemble to cut him off. The dragon roars
at them. The rider raises a hand to the dragon and his roar
subsides. At this gesture Kirn lets his arrow fly. The
rider, who has a grotesque scar where his left eye should
be, unsheathes a sword hanging at his side and cuts the arrow
down in mid-flight. The guards charge the rider. A small
skirmish erupts and the rider quickly dispatches all of the
guards.
RIDER
Hold your attack. I mean you no
harm. I seek to palaver with your
king.
As the rider says this wind begins to swirl around Vlake,
and Kirn knocks another arrow. Johan raises his staff in
the air and begins to chant. A wall of fire engulfs both
the King and Johan. Kirn begins shooting arrows as fast as
he can, each one being deflected by the rider. Vlake rises
and shouts.
VLAKE
Come to my aid Heaseilan.
Suddenly the air directly in front of Vlake begins to shimmer
and slowly a large creature with the body of lion and the
face of a man fades into existence. It looks at the dragon
and quickly charges toward the rider and the dragon. Vlake
follows only a step behind. Heaseilan slams into the dragon
at full stride and the two begin to exchange blows. Vlake
charges the rider who is standing with his sword outstretched
to his right, the point of the blade facing the ground.
RIDER
I do not wish to fight. You must
stop at once. This is madness...
VLAKE
If you do not wish to fight, then
you will die where you stand.
The rider lets out a sigh as Vlake swings his giant sword at
him. The rider blocks every attack Vlake throws at him, but
never ripostes.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
12.
After a few parries, the rider sees an opening and hits Vlake
in the face with the butt of his weapon. Vlake falls to the
ground unconscious. Heaseilan senses this and disengages
the dragon to come to his master's aid. The rider steps
over Vlake and again begins to walk toward the remaining
members of the council. As the rider approaches Kyren flees
into the castle. Kirn, who has an empty quiver, drops his
bow and unsheathes his dual daggers. He charges the rider.
Again the rider only parries the attackers' blows never
attempting to hit his assailant. The rider manages to quickly
disarm Kirn and throws him to the ground.
RIDER
I advise you to stay where I put
you.
As the rider says this he motions to the dragon. The dragon
quickly closes the distance between himself and Kirn. As
the dragon passes the unconscious Vlake, Heaseilan stands
over his master and hisses at the dragon but does not attack.
The dragon reaches Kirn and lightly puts one claw on him,
pinning him to the ground. The wall of flame fades, and
Johan is caught by the King as he falls to the ground
obviously exhausted from the spell. The rider begins to
sheath his sword when suddenly the man in black emerges from
the shadows. The rider sees him from the corner of his eye
and his sword is at the ready in an instant. The man in
black has his own sword in the same position, off to his
right, pointing to the ground as he rushes the rider. The
two exchange attacks and parries, this time the rider is
visibly attacking. The two are evenly matched, and soon
there is a pause in the battle.
RIDER (CONT'D)
You!
MAN IN BLACK
I have waited years to spill your
blood Kun-Jai. Not since the Great
War have I seen you. I see you still
have that vile creature in your
service, and your eye looks good.
At this comment the man in black taps his sword blade to
where his left eye would be, if his face were not covered by
the mask. There is an audible clang of metal on metal.
KUN-JAI
If you were not in the service of
this kingdom, I would kill you where
you stand Rata.
RATA
You could not kill me all those years
ago, what makes you think you could
accomplish the task this time.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
13.
RATA (CONT'D)
You should not have come here Kun-
Jai, your place is with your people,
either back in the wastelands of
Mesanto or into the Sea of Waking
Dreams. All you have to do is ask
and I would gladly send you there.
You could cross by sunset. You could
be with your clansmen.
At this comment the KUN-JAI is visibly shaken. The dragon
senses his discomfort and presses slightly down onto Kirn,
making him grunt.
KUN-JAI
My time has not yet come, Rata. I
do not seek anymore bloodshed, there
has been enough death at my hand. I
only seek an audience with your king.
RATA
I have no king...
ROLAND
Enough!
The King places Johan gently down on the ground and approaches
the Kun-Jai. Roland waves a hand at Rata and he sheathes
his sword and slowly slinks back into the shadows. As Roland
approaches the Kun-Jai, he sheathes his own sword and kneels
before the king.
KUN-JAI
Hile King Roland.
At the sight of this the dragon takes his paw off of Kirn
and joins the Kun-Jai, dropping down onto one of his own
knees. Kirn dusts himself off and rushes to Johan's aid.
He picks up his daggers on the way without missing a step.
Vlake has now regained consciousness and approaches the King,
Heaseilan only a step behind. Kirn picks up Johan and they
too limp to stand next to the King. The remaining members
of the council now stand in a line all facing the Kun-Jai
and the dragon.
KUN-JAI (CONT'D)
I seek palaver with you my lord,
there is much to discuss.
The Kun-Jai says this without raising his bowed head.
ROLAND
Then palaver is what you shall
receive. We are well met this day
Kun-Jai. You must have a story to
tell, and if it suits you, I feel we
should all hear it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
14.
INT. NORTH RIDGE CASTLE COUNCIL CHAMBER - DAY
The council is sitting as before with the Kun-Jai taking the
seat across from the King.
ROLAND
So, Kun-Jai, what brings you and
your dragon to my realm?
KUN-JAI
He is not mine, we are companions.
I have come here to aid you in the
coming invasion.
Kyren grunts at this statement.
ROLAND
Coming invasion?
KUN-JAI
Yes my lord. The Sandman has found
a way to keep creatures from being
reincarnated and coming back to this
realm. I am guessing you have noticed
a decline in the amount of wildlife
in your kingdom. The Sandman has
sent out a band of marauders to
destroy them all. He then is
enslaving them in the Sea of Waking
Dreams. He has also found a way to
topple the Great Divide. Once he
has amassed an army large enough he
will surely unleash them onto this
plane. If this occurs all will be
lost, he will become the ruler of us
all. No one will be able to oppose
him.
KYREN
A likely story. You bring a beast
no one has seen in this area in years
and expect us to believe you somehow
have knowledge of what the Sandman
does?
The Kun-Jai meets Kyren's eyes for a moment.
KUN-JAI
Yes.
KYREN
And how did you come across this
information?
KUN-JAI
That is immaterial...the important
thing...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
15.
KYREN
And the dragon?
The Kun-Jai looks at Roland.
KUN-JAI
My lord, I do not believe we have
time for this.
KIRN
I am quite curious as well as to how
a man has tamed an Elder.
KUN-JAI
Very well. As I said before we are
companions, I have not tamed Shiavona.
My people have a custom. Every
thousand years or so a dragon and a
human are born on the same day. My
people and the Elders made a pact
millennia ago that when this occurred
the signs could not be ignored.
VLAKE
Signs?
KUN-JAI
Yes. It appears that when this occurs
the two have a special empathetic
link. I can't actually see what
Shiavona sees, nor she I, but we can
feel each others emotions across any
distance. Joy, fear, pain, hatred.
KYREN
I can't believe we are listening to
this outsider. He tells nothing but
lies. He must have some odd magical
control over the beast.
VLAKE
Your insolence will be your
destruction young Prince. You should
well learn your place and respect a
mortal who moments ago bested this
entire council.
KYREN
Yar, with the help of one of the
most powerful creatures known to
man.
KIRN
Actually, he had little help
from...Shiavona was it?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
16.
KYREN
I find it hard to believe that this
brigand would have beaten us without
the help of that lizard.
JOHAN
Us you say? I do believe I observed
you fleeing at the sight of his
fighting prowess.
KYREN
Need I remind you mage, that one day
I will be at the head of this table?
It would be wise of you to hold your
insults to yourself.
ROLAND
Silence. Kyren, when I am gone tis
true this seat will be yours, but
that day has not yet come to pass.
You will respect our guest.
At this Kyren stands up outraged and exits the room knocking
his chair over in the process. We see a glimmer of Rata as
he follows.
KUN-JAI
By the way, that assassin is not to
be trusted.
ROLAND
He has been nothing but loyal all of
these years.
KIRN
And there is no telling what would
happen to Kyren were it not for his
personal body guard.
JOHAN
Perhaps we would all be better off
if Rata had never mysteriously
appeared at our meetings all those
years ago.
ROLAND
Please be kind Johan, that is my
son, and heir, you speak of.
JOHAN
You are right my lord, a thousand
apologies.
ROLAND
I am also curious as to how you know
Rata, Kun-Jai.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
17.
KUN-JAI
I am afraid that tale will have to
wait, we have a lot of preparations
to make, and we must make haste.
EXT. GUARDIAN TEMPLE - NIGHT
Euclid is stealthily approaching the temple. It is plain
and three stories high. Torches are set all around the first
two levels, creating many shadows. There are very few
windows. Two men dressed in light brown hooded robes stand
guard at the front entrance, which is a large set of wooded
double doors. Euclid crouches behind a nearby tree to observe
the GUARDIANS. After a moment she disappears and a silhouette
of her jumps to the roof. There is another set of double
doors on the roof. A guard dressed as the others leans
against them. The silhouette of Euclid steadily approaches
the man. As she reaches him she plunges a small dagger into
his chest killing him instantly. Her eyes flash purple for
a brief moment. She re-materializes a moment later and
quietly opens the door. She slithers inside.
EXT. GUARDIAN TEMPLE - NIGHT
The two Guardians at the front of the temple stand guard as
before. Suddenly the doors behind them burst off of their
hinges and knock them to the ground. The silhouette of Euclid
bursts out, half a dozen men dressed in the same attire as
the others follow. A few of them carry torches.
GUARDIAN
Stop her, she is stealing the Relic!
Most of the guards trip over the fallen doors. Two make it
through without falling and run quickly into the woods.
Only one has a torch. They are soon separated. The one
without the torch stops suddenly and realizes he is alone.
He looks around in a state of panic. A moment later a dagger
blade protrudes from his chest and as Euclid's eyes flash
purple once again right next to the man's face. He falls to
the ground lifeless. The Guardian with the torch soon
approaches his fallen comrade. He stoops to look at his
dead companion. He rises slowly revealing Euclid's face in
the torch light. She bares fangs and lunges at the man.
EXT. NORTH RIDGE CASTLE COURTYARD - DAY
The Kun-Jai is walking through a part of the courtyard that
has various shops lining the path. He walks past a blacksmith
shop. PENT, a large man wearing chainmail, yells out at the
Kun-Jai.
PENT
Look at the fool, he walks around
wearing pottery for armor.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
18.
The men with Pent laugh. The Kun-Jai stops and walks back
toward Pent. The Kun-Jai begins unstrapping his chest plate.
When he reaches Pent he has it off. He sets it on the ground.
KUN-JAI
May I borrow a chest plate from the
forge?
The blacksmith hands him a metal chest plate. The Kun-Jai
sets it atop a large anvil.
KUN-JAI (CONT'D)
If you would?
The Kun-Jai hands Pent a large hammer. Pent looks at the
hammer then at the armor, then at the blacksmith. The
blacksmith nods. Pent brings the hammer high above his head
and smashes the chest plate. It cracks down the middle and
is useless. The Kun-Jai removes the chest plate and places
his own on the anvil. He nods. Pent lifts the hammer high
once again and smashes the Kun-Jai's armor. He does not
even scratch it. Pent has a look of disbelief on his face.
The Kun-Jai collects his armor and begins to strap it back
on. He has a smile on his face. He pays the blacksmith and
walks away.
